Explore our Selection of Colourful Fly Tying Dubbing!
At Rocky Mountain Fly Shop, we carry a diverse selection of dubbing in a range of colours. Dubbing is a fiber used in fly tying that can be either natural or synthetic. Each offers different colours and thicknesses, so it’s important to consider the type of fly you want to tie before selecting your dubbing. Our selection of dubbing includes coarse options like ice dub from rabbit or angora goat fur and fine options from seal fur!
If you are looking to tie a “Buggie” looking fly, long coarse dubbing made from natural fibers like angora and rabbit fur is the best option. Hairline Krystal dub, for example, contains rabbit fur and a synthetic blend of Krystal flash for a sparkly buggie looking fly that will sparkle and reflect light.
At Rocky Mountain Fly shop, we carry some of the best dubbing from top brands like Waspi, Hareline and Davy Wotton! Shop our dubbing selection today for all the best fly tying essentials.
What kind of thread is best for dubbing?
Fly tying thread is usually made of polyester or nylon. Polyester is the preferred thread material to use for dubbing, as it tends to be textured allowing it to grip the dubbing better than nylon, which is slicker and more challenging to handle.
Do I need dubbing wax?
Dubbing wax is used to make attaching the dubbing to the thread easier. Dubbing wax tends to be quite sticky and should be used sparingly to avoid an unsightly finish to your fly. In general, however, it is a good idea to pick up some dubbing wax, as it will make dubbing significantly easier.
