West Central Alberta’s Current Water Conditions & Fly Fishing Report

On the Upper Red Deer this week water levels continue to drop and just slipped under the seasonal high average. Last weeks rain had low impact to the system, and we expect this weeks rain to minimally impact water levels and conditions. The upper mainstem and tribs are fishing well and expect to see that trend continue into this week as fall water levels continue to drop. Streamer fishing has been great and we continue to see lots of foam eats everyday. Moving into the fall look for BWO hatches to start popping off again soon!

On the tailwaters of the Red below Dickson Dam water levels are dropping and are currently holding around the middle of the seasonal average. Much like the upper both the mainstem and tribs of the middle Red Deer are currently fishing well with good to excellent conditions. Foam and backswimmers are both still producing well and we expect to see this trend continue into the next week.

On the Stillwater’s this week we continue to see excellent fishing and conditions. Sedge hatches have been on the smaller side so size down all around! The Boatmen are on fire and if you hit a Stillwater this week make sure you bring some. Evening mousing is picking up and has been really producing well in the last week.

In the mountains of ES2 this week the creeks and streams are in excellent condition and fishing has been awesome. Cooler evening temps have been slowing down the mornings but mid morning to evening is fishing quite well. The Ram water conditions are great and we anticipate this to continue into the next week.

Check out the Alberta River App or give us a call at the shop for more accurate updates as the week progresses.
