Choosing the Best Fly Fishing Strike Indicators
When it comes to choosing the best fly fishing indicator, there are many options in a variety of colours, sizes, shapes, and materials.
In terms of size, it’s important that your strike indicator is large enough to float while supporting the weight of your nymphing rig. However, you don’t want to go too big! The goal is for around ½ to ⅓ of your indicator to sit below the surface of the water.
When it comes to materials and shapes, some float better than others! And, there are some materials that benefit from looking more natural. For example, wool or yarn is the most natural looking and performs well in calm water, while spherical foam indicators float high on the surface making them ideal for rugged conditions.
